QR codes are a great tool for anyone to use and want to make it easy for customers to take an action with their smartphone. Instead of asking them to type in potentially large URLs, they can simply scan the code with their smartphone’s camera, and it will automatically take them to a web page. They can also do other actions such as sending a text message, creating an email, or even dialing a number.
After the restart of the restaurant and the recommendations of EFET to the owners to stock up on contactless menus, the madness of the qr menu is holding up well.
But the time has come to put things in their place. So let’s start with the basics!
What is a QR code?
A QR code is a two-dimensional barcode created by the Japanese company Denso-Wave in 1994. “QR” comes from the initials of the words “Quick Response”, because its creators had as their main purpose the data contained in the code to be decoded at high speed. QR code is very popular in Japan, where it is the most popular type of two-dimensional code.

How to scan a Hellenistic scan
Scanning a QR code is done with the help of a smart phone. To do this, the user needs an app that converts the phone’s camera into a QR code scanner.
Example of using a qr code
A QR code can be stored, for example, a link to a website. The user scans the QR code with his mobile phone and automatically navigates the website. This act of connecting from the physical world is known as hardlinking or hyperlinking to the physical world. Users can also create and print their own QR codes using various free QR code generation software available on the network. They can store any message they want.
What is QR Menu?
So the qr menu is nothing more than a qr code that links to your online menu, wherever it is located. Either on the restaurant’s website , or in a photo of your menu that is stored online, or in a web application of a digital catalog.

How to Make a QR Menu

There are many websites from which you can get a QR code. Many are free, but will be charged for expanded services. We’ve found that qrcode-monkey.com has great customization options for free, including the ability to add your business logo, change colors, and styles. They also have paid options that you may want to explore with even more customization.
In this tutorial we will make a simple QR code that will direct our customers to a web page with our menu on it. You’ll need the URL of the webpage where your menu is located and your logo (if you want to use one). Also, make sure you do this on a computer, not on your phone or tablet.
We’ll use Deacon’s New South as an example. The Deacon menu can be found at https://deaconsnewsouth.com/eat/
We’ll paste the menu url into your URL bar.

Then you can choose colors if you want. We’re stuck with the black. The black ink looks sharp and crisp, making it easy to scan the cameras. Bonus, black ink is the least expensive to print.
If you want to add your logo, you can do so in the next step. Just click on the image upload button, and you will be able to upload your logo there.

Then, you can customize your design according to your preferences. Once you have it as you like, click on the green Create QR Code button. The website will generate your code, and then you can download it.

A note to download: PNG files can be used by almost anyone, whether you’re using Microsoft Word or Google Docs to create a poster or whiteboard scene. However, an EPS is a great option if you’re working with a toner or have access to drawing programs like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or Indesign. How to use it and who will use it will help you determine the type of file you need to download.
We have created a Microsoft Word template that you can use for a table scene, which you can download by clicking here. In the template we use the PNG file option for the QR code.

Replace the sample QR code with your own that you download from QR Code Monkey. Right-click the QR code images in the Word document and select Change Image. Find the QR code you have received and select this file.
Feel free to change fonts to match your brand and adjust the language as needed.
When printing, we recommend using a card inventory. The 65 lb card stock is readily available and usually works well on most printers. Once printed, simply fold down the center, creating a 5.5 x 8.5 scene.
